Definitely Kyle Idlemann's not Not a Fan. The premise was simply asking if our actions showed if we were a true follower of Jesus ... or simply a fan, like we are a fan of chocolate or a favorite sports team. I read it about 3 months ago, but I still sometimes stop to evaluate what I'm doing and the motivation behind it.

I've most recently been on a fiction reading frenzy but also like non-fiction and have a teen girl in the house. Thanks for blessing your readers with your clean-out!

My favorite book or one of my favorite books of 2011 was In Every Heartbeat by Kim Vogel Sawyer... I liked how it showed the importance of friendship and forgiveness. (:

I prefer fiction :)

I read a lot more in the past year than I have in quite a while. The book that came to mind is "The Beast in the Garden" by David Baron. It is a non-fiction book about the return of mountain lions to Boulder, Colorado after they had been driven out/killed off from that area. It is definitely a book that gets you thinking.

My preference would be historical fiction set in WWII.

That was supposed to be Sue Moore - not Sabino Counseling...I ooopsed up.

This past year I read Go Big by Cory Coton and I really liked it. It was inspirational and encouraging. After reading this book, written by a young Christian man, I felt led by God to start a non-profit organization. My org. helps people who are sick or in need by making and delivering hand-made items along with the Word and Love of Jesus.

I usually enjoy fiction more than nonfiction, but I think the book that has most influenced me this year is nonfiction - The Confident Heart by Renee Swope. However,I love Terri Blackstock's Intervention Series. :-) And there are so many more!

Oops I forgot! I prefer non-fiction.

That is a hard question.. but I think I'll go with Immanuel's Veins by Ted Dekker. I loved the symbolic picture of God's unconditional, undying love for us that Mr. Dekker painted through this story.

tara said...

I forgot too.. probably fiction.

It's hard to just pick one, but for fiction it would have to be Tosca Lee's "Havah". I spent the majority of the book trying to figure out if I really liked it or not. Her depiction of the fall and the fractured relationship between Adam and Eve had me weeping uncontrollably.

Hi Tricia,
I really enjoy reading Amish/Christian fiction books. The best one that I read this year??? Hm....I have read sooo many and have loved them all. But, I think my favorite was Sarah's Garden written by Kelly Long. I just love her style of writing. But, like I said, I really love all the Amish Fiction authors and the books that they write!!!

A Nest in the Rocks said...

Tough one ... I liked "The Tehran Initiative" by Joel C. Rosenberg and "Courageous" by Randy Alcorn. I also read my first two Goyer books, and I liked the different slant that was given to these WWII stories.

I'm a fiction fan!

I read a book called The OR Chronicles by Greg Skibo. I chose it as a book to review book. I didn't know what to expect. It was hillarious. I laughed through the entire book. It had some "adult" language which was a bit of a turn off. I haven't laughed that much reading a book in a long time.

I read Radical at the beginning of the year and loved it! It totally gave me a new perspective on Christianity.

I would love to win the non-fiction prize pack - has some amazing authors in there!

My favorite book by far this last year was "The 4:8 Principle". I believe that book will make a lasting impact in my life as it reminded me how much I need to take captive every thought. This book challenged me and greatly encouraged me. I look forward to reading it every year and allowing God to work through it to help me have an eternal mindset!

My favorite book in 2011 was "Fairer Than Morning" by Rosslyn Elliott. Great debut novel!

My favorite Tricia Goyer book in 2011 was "Beside Still Waters." This book totally changed how I view Amish fiction.

As you can probably tell, fiction is my favorite! :)

I don't know...I read so many! Probably the one I still think about is the Hunger Games trilogy. The other most fantastic book that I still can't believe I never read until this year is A Wrinkle in Time.

I usually read YA fiction, but your list of non-fiction titles looks good, too!

Dandelion Summer by Lisa Wingate was the book I read that stuck with me the most. The characters were wonderful.
Nonfiction wise was your book with RJG, Praying for your Future Husband. I grew up praying for my future husband, and now at 31, I had given up praying. The devil had me convinced God wouldn't answer that prayer. Your book encouraged me to keep praying.

The Preacher's Bride by Jody Hedlund was a really good read. Honestly, though, I've read so many good books that it's hard to pick just one.

I like most genres, but usually lean toward historical fiction.

I typically enjoy fiction especially historical fiction, but the best book I read this year was a non fiction book called "He Loves Me! Learning to Live in the Father's Affection" by Wayne Jacobsen. It really spoke to my heart. Everything God has done has been because of his great love for his creation.

This is so hard LOL, I read 650 Books last year and trying to pick a favourite :P/ I would have to do a tie between Divergent by Veronica Roth- normally I don't like Dystopian novels but this one as soon as I started I couldn't put it down and Anna and The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins0 it was just an unbelievably great read. My favourite adult fiction was Long Time coming by Vanessa Miller - one of the first books in a long time that had me tearing up and Delivered with Love by Sherry Kyle - this was such a nice story of self-discovery and divine appointments made by God.

"Out of a Far Country" by Christopher Yuan and Angela Yuan. It was one of those books that you read at the exact right moment.

Second favorite was "Praying for your Future Husband" by . . . you!

(If I win I'd love the non-fiction batch.)

The best book I read in 2011, lol, that's funny, it's always the last one I read as it's the most prominent in my very muddled brain, lol, so that would be Love on the Line by Deeanna Gist, and it was great. Like I say, each book I've read has been the best one at one time throughout the year.

I like Amish or Historical Romance/Western Fiction.

I read City of Tranquil Light by Bo Caldwell in January 2011 and am still thinking about, recommending it, etc. The story was so powerful, and the writing was top-notch. I felt like I'd visited China through the pages of the book. Fiction is definitely my preference.

The best book I read this year that I can think of right away would be Blue Skies Tomorrow by Sarah Sundin. I loved how she talked about the real part of family life during the '40's. The historical aspect was amazing! Of course, I loved your book Remembering you too!

melissaknorris said...

Hmm, hard to pick! I really liked Jody Hedlund's book, The Preacher's Bride, because of the hero's revelation that he alone isn't responsible to do God's work.

Because I couldn't pick just one, the other was, Shadows:Book of Aleth by Michael Duncan. I'm not normally a fantasy writer, but it felt like C.S. Lewis and the imagery is still with me.

I prefer fiction, normally historical, but I love a good suspense as well. Thanks for the giveaway!

God's Smuggler by Brother Andrew captivated my heart. This book shows how Christianity is anything but boring. God had an amazing plan for Brother Andrew and his testimony was such an encouragement to me. He proves that no matter where we are, God can use us to do great things for his kingdom.

Hunger Games was, of course, another great read. :)

I would love YA or non-fiction books!

I wasn't able to do a whole lotta reading this year with a little one at home but my fave book was Ransome's Quest by Kaye Dacus. It's the last in a trilogy that is Austenesque and I loved it because Kaye has such a way with words and it had a great plot!

I would love to win your listed books Tricia or the board book. Thanks for the chance!

I believe the best book I have read is "when God writes your love story". I have learned alot about myself through this book and about the way I look at relationships. I am striving to fall more in love with God and allowing Him to author my love story when He is ready! :) I would be greatly blessed by any of the book selections, I love to read and getting ready to earn my teaching degree books are important resources to have for my future students and myself!

I have read so many great books just in the last 6 mos but I think the one that really sticks with me is "Deliver Me From Evil" by Kathi Macias. I don't think I will ever forget that this horrid thing is happening here in America. So many bad people in the world and we have to get them out of our great America and the world. We must strive to protect our children at all times.

I love fiction, nonfiction and YA. I loved your books and can't wait to read more of them.
Thanks for the giveaway.

I usually enjoy fiction better than non-fiction, but historical fiction is my favorite. My favorite book(s) of 2011 were the Wives of David series by Jill Eileen Smith. Michal, Abigail and Bathsheba came alive as she wrote about their lives with David, and I thought about the way they lived in a new light.

Second would have to be From Dust to Ashes. What an amazing story, Tricia!!

I've read a lot of awesome books this year, but the 2 that have engrossed me the most AND had the biggest impact were One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp and Beth Wiseman's Seek Me With Your Heart. I also loved the book you wrote about the troops who liberated the concentration camps - I think it was called "From Dust to Ashes," but i can't remember for sure. I am a HUGE fan of AMish fiction, so that would be my choice of books if I won. Thanks so much for doing this!!!

The book that I thought was most memorable this year was A Distant Melody by Sarah Sundan. The characters seem to linger in your mind long after you have reached the end.

I prefer fiction but I read a lot of nonfiction too. Thank you for offering this contest.

i read over 80 books in 2011, but the one that resonates in my heart is "take Three" by Karen Kingsbury. Though just a fictitious story, God placed this in my life at the same moment we were dealing with the exact issue!!! I emailed Karen Kingsbury just to say thank you for the encouragement offered by her books and within 20 minutes a personal reply that she was praying for us. And yes, our "Andi" was Devinely rescued from the abortion clinic. God works in amazing ways, even through fiction. (Fiction!)

I read many marvelous books, but one book stands out " A Summer Affair " by Elin Hilderbrand. It was a wonderful, National Bestseller. I liked it because it was the perfect summer or anytime read set in a glamorous location. It was filled with sun, scandal and a luxury lifestyle that kept me lost in its pages.

Wow this is a hard one!

Last year I read more memoirs than anything! I will honestly say that if I had to pick a favorite, I'd pick "Love You More" by Jennifer Grant. I loved her story of adoption-- probably because a lot of her story sounded so familiar to me. It's a great story that I can pick up and read again and again! Love God's faithfulness to her!

Thanks for the contest! Enter me in!!

Hugs!

The book that stood out to me the most in 2011 is "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan. It truly opens your eyes to how much you love other things than you do the Lord. And what would you really do for Him if you truly loved Him with all that is in you. Incredible book. I did the workbook too and it asks some really hard but good questions.

I love Fiction!

I love all genres of fiction. For many years I just read Amish fiction but I have branched out and I was sent a book from Kathi Macias called People of the Book. Wow..what an impact this book had on me. This story line stayed with me for months. I even sobbed over lunch one day telling my husband what the story was about. It really touched me. I have since read several more of her books.

I love reading fiction books!

Blessings!

I'd love the batch of fiction books. Thanks so much for doing this!
